I was asked to follow up on my previous post, so here is the “magic”….
I fixed the issue by running the memory test on the Install CD. Pretty easy really, but still no explanation as to why the error occurred in the first place. To run the memory tester…
1. Press and hold the F9 key while booting from install DVD
2. When the Windows Boot Manager menu appears, highlight Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool, and press Enter. The Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool will start checking the computer’s memory. It automatically reboots at end, and “Presto” it booted.
It worked for me. Don’t ask why. I replaced all the ram in the system and it’s been fine since. The original memory is in another system of same type, speed and processor, running Vista, and is having no problem. Good Luck.
Oh Yeah….. I STILL hate Vista. Get a MAC, Get Fedora, Get an Abacus. Get off of Vista.

I read the response given by Admin on Sep 12, 2007.
The question is, how do you run the memory test if Vista came preloaded onyour laptop and you don’t have the install DVD/CD?

Your laptop *should* have come with a “Recovery CD”. That will have the windows files on it you need. You might need to make a boot disk from that cd, though. IF no recovery CD – then I can only guess…. you would have to borrow one or perhaps have a computer shop burn a cd for you so that you can access the recovery options.
